The Yayi Progressives Movement has moved its Ogun-East Mega Rally to Friday, 30 October, retaining the 11am start and Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium venue in Ijebu-Ode.
The political support group, which backs Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, known as YAYI, had originally scheduled the gathering for Wednesday, 28 October. Its Media and Publicity Department announced the postponement in a statement issued on Tuesday.
YPM said the extra time would allow further coordination and refinement of arrangements. It apologised for the inconvenience and asked members, supporters and other stakeholders to adjust their plans.
A solidarity trek preceding the main programme is due to begin at 7am at Mobalufon Under Bridge in Ijebu-Ode. The organisers said accreditation would form part of the arrangements and urged participants to arrive early and cooperate with designated officials.
The revised notice retains the venue and time announced at a press conference in Abeokuta on Monday. The programme includes plans to inaugurate 1,180 artisans’ ambassadors and grassroots mobilisers as the movement expands its organisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the Iwe Iroyin Press Centre, YPM co-convener and director-general Kehinde Odeneye said the movement was targeting about 30,000 participants. He described Ogun East as the starting point of a mobilisation exercise that would subsequently extend to Ogun Central and Ogun West.
Odeneye also said the group had a membership register exceeding 90,600. Those figures are the movement’s own claims. The projected rally turnout is a target, rather than an attendance count.
The President of the Artisan Association of Nigeria’s Ogun State chapter, Anthony Ayodele, said the proposed ambassadors would link the movement with residents in their communities. Their responsibilities would include communicating its programmes, listening to local concerns and encouraging peaceful political participation.
“Our ambassadors and mobilisers will serve as vital links between the movement and the people,” Ayodele said at the briefing.
He said the initiative was intended to give artisans greater representation in public affairs, citing their work in employment generation, skills acquisition and community development. The ambassadors’ inauguration remains a planned part of the rally programme.
The organisers outlined a network comprising 26 constituency coordinators, polling-unit canvassers, artisans’ groups, students’ and women’s wings, and market mobilisation teams. They said the gathering would bring these groups together alongside political leaders and other supporters. Odeneye said arrangements were being made for security and traffic management before, during and after the event.
At Monday’s briefing, the movement listed Governor Dapo Abiodun, Adeola and Ogun State House of Assembly Speaker Oludaisi Elemide among expected guests.
Invitations were also extended to market associations, community leaders, youth organisations and students. Ayodele said the gathering was intended to strengthen cooperation among the movement’s groups across communities, wards and local government areas.
The movement also announced expected performances by King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal and Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, with Gbenga Adeyinka among the proposed comperes.
YPM said the mobilisation was intended to support the All Progressives Congress and its candidates ahead of the elections. Ayodele urged participants to respect public facilities, observe traffic and safety rules and cooperate with security personnel during the trek and rally.
