IILM introduces Barr. Bola Ibitola, its Legal Adviser and Head of the Legal Unit at the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

The International Institute of Leadership & Management (IILM) has introduced Barr. Bola Ibitola as its Legal Adviser, bringing experience in legal practice, public administration and institutional governance to the professional institute.

Barr. Ibitola, who currently heads the Legal Unit at the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, combines legal training with a background in business and a longstanding interest in cultural and community development. Her role at IILM is expected to provide a legal perspective as the Institute continues to strengthen its professional and governance structures.

Education and legal qualifications

Born on 2 June 1973, Bola Ibitola began her higher education at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, where she obtained a National Diploma in Marketing. She subsequently studied Business Law at the University of Lagos, earning a diploma in the discipline.

She went on to obtain a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Lagos and completed the professional training leading to her qualification as a Barrister-at-Law (BL).

Her progression from marketing and business law to formal legal practice reflects an educational background that spans business, administration and law. That combination offers a broad understanding of issues affecting organisations and the public institutions that serve them.

Legal leadership in Lagos State public service

Barr. Ibitola presently serves as Head of the Legal Unit at the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. Her position places her within a government portfolio concerned with cultural affairs and tourism, areas that can involve administrative and regulatory questions alongside the delivery of public programmes.

As a legal practitioner working in the public sector, she brings a perspective shaped by institutional processes, legal responsibilities and the practical requirements of government administration.

She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association. Her professional profile also identifies her as a member of an Anti-Corruption Review Committee, reflecting an interest in accountability and the standards by which institutions conduct their affairs.

A commitment to culture, collaboration and service

Beyond her legal responsibilities, Barr. Ibitola describes herself as a cultural enthusiast, a team player and a bridge builder. These interests complement her work within Lagos State’s tourism, arts and culture portfolio and speak to her emphasis on maintaining constructive relationships.

She also places particular value on helping others without expecting anything in return. That service-oriented outlook reflects the importance she attaches to generosity, cooperation and making a positive contribution beyond formal professional duties.

Married with children, she combines her professional responsibilities with family life and an ongoing commitment to supporting others.

Providing legal guidance to IILM

As Legal Adviser to the International Institute of Leadership & Management, Barr. Ibitola joins the Institute’s developing institutional leadership structure. Her contribution will be particularly relevant to matters requiring legal guidance, an understanding of public administration and attention to sound organisational practice.

IILM focuses on practical leadership and management development through continuing professional development, professional membership, Fellowship and mentorship. The Institute’s stated values include integrity, character, excellence, service, growth and accountability.

In that context, legal advice forms an important part of responsible institutional development. Clear procedures, appropriate oversight and an understanding of legal obligations can help professional organisations build lasting credibility with members, learners and partners.

Barr. Ibitola’s appointment adds legal and public-sector experience to this work as IILM continues to expand its activities and strengthen its structures.
