A Nigerian secondary school, St. John Vianney Science College from Ukwulu, Anambra State, has emerged as the grand champion of the inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Competition, held virtually on June 19, 2025. The competition featured top-ranking schools from both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Four Nigerian schools participated: Britarch Schools (Abuja), Sure Start School (Abuja), St. Augustine’s College (Jos), and St. John Vianney Science College (Ukwulu). British schools included Central Foundation Girls’ School, Maghull High School, and Shireland High School.

After intense preliminary rounds, St. John Vianney Science College advanced to the finals, defeating British contenders Maghull High School and Central Foundation Girls’ School. The final round was an all-Nigerian contest against St. Augustine’s College, Jos, where St. John Vianney secured a decisive victory to claim the prestigious title of inaugural champions.

This victory highlights the growing prominence of Nigerian schools on the international stage and showcases the talent and eloquence of Nigerian students in global academic competitions.
