Early Thursday morning, torrential rainfall and a whirlwind caused significant damage at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State. During a lecture in the Amphitheatre of the Oduduwa Hall, part of the ceiling collapsed, injuring several students.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, accompanied by other principal officers, swiftly visited the university’s Medical and Health Centre to ensure that the injured students received proper medical attention. Two students requiring further care were transferred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where Chief Medical Director Professor John Okeniyi personally supervised their treatment.
Public Relations Officer Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju reported that the Vice-Chancellor has called for calm, urging students and staff to continue their activities as usual. In response to the incident, the university has sealed off the amphitheatre until further notice to ensure safety.
