Sporting president Frederico Varandas has confirmed that no offer has been made for striker Viktor Gyokeres and dismissed reports of a supposed agreement allowing the player to leave for €70m (£59m).
Gyokeres, who has attracted interest from top European clubs after an outstanding goal tally over two seasons, has a release clause set at €100m (£85m).
Varandas clarified that while assurances were given not to enforce the full release clause, no fixed exit fee was agreed upon. “I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for €60m plus €10m because I never promised that,” he said.
He also revealed that although the striker’s agent had sought to anchor a specific release value during discussions, the club declined to set a fixed price, choosing instead to leave the decision open depending on future circumstances. “What I can guarantee is that I will not demand €100m,” Varandas added.
He reiterated that the club had received no formal offers for the striker either now or in previous windows.
