Billionaire Elon Musk has expressed regret over some of his recent posts about U.S. President Donald Trump, following a heated exchange between the two on social media.

“I regret some of my posts about President Trump last week. They went too far,” Musk stated on his platform, X.

The tension escalated after Musk harshly criticized a tax bill backed by the president, referring to it as a “disgusting abomination.” The legislation, which includes extensive tax breaks and increased defense spending, was recently passed by the House and is now under Senate review.

Musk urged citizens to pressure their representatives to block the bill, warning it could trigger a recession later in the year. In the midst of the feud, Musk also made unverified claims about the president’s name appearing in confidential files related to a late sex offender—allegations that were publicly dismissed.

In response, the president declared that their relationship was over and dismissed any possibility of reconciliation. He also criticized Musk’s behavior, calling it disrespectful and threatening to cut off government contracts worth billions, many of which are tied to Musk’s aerospace company.

Over the weekend, Musk appeared to delete several of his more inflammatory posts, including one in which he called for the president’s impeachment.

Despite once being a major financial supporter of the president’s campaign and holding a prominent advisory role in his administration, Musk has now distanced himself. Political allies have since reacted with a mix of disappointment and hope for reconciliation, while others within the president’s circle have called for harsher measures, including deportation.

The fallout comes shortly after Musk resigned from a government advisory role after a brief tenure.
