Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved a grand ceremony to honour 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah and 15-year-old Rukayya Muhammad Fema for their outstanding achievements at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London.
Nafisa emerged as the World Best in English Language Skills while Rukayya won the overall debate competition. Both students represented Nigeria and outperformed over 20,000 participants from 69 countries.
In a statement signed by the Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Muhammad, Buni praised the students as beneficiaries of his scholarship programme, which provides full tuition for 890 students at the Nigerian Tulip International College in Yobe State.
He described their successes as great honours for the state and country, affirming that these achievements justify the government’s investments in education.
Governor Buni assured that his administration would continue to subsidize education to ensure all children in the state have access to schooling.
He appealed for parental cooperation in supporting education initiatives. The government has also reconstructed schools damaged by insurgency, provided furniture, books, laboratory equipment, and employed qualified teachers to enhance educational quality.
Currently, about 40,000 students from Yobe are on government scholarships studying various courses in Nigerian and international tertiary institutions.
