Security operatives in Kaduna have apprehended a suspected vote buyer, Shehu Aliyu Patangi, possessing N25,963,000 in cash just hours before the by-elections in the state.

The arrest was made around 3:30 am at a hotel along Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis. The police revealed that the money was intended to bribe voters to influence the electoral process.

The Kaduna State Police Command, working with the Department of State Services (DSS), confirmed that the suspect confessed during interrogation and pleaded for leniency.

Nigeria Police Commissioner Rabiu Muhammad issued a stern warning that anyone caught trying to sabotage the elections through vote buying, violence, or intimidation would face severe legal consequences.

Security measures have been intensified across polling units, collation centers, and sensitive areas of Kaduna to ensure a peaceful voting process.

The police urged political actors and residents to avoid any form of violence or disruption and assured adequate protection before, during, and after the elections. Voters were encouraged to exercise their rights peacefully and without fear.
