The annual index evaluates countries based on over 60 factors, including manpower, military equipment, financial resources, logistical capabilities, and geographic advantages to provide a comprehensive assessment of military strength.
In Africa, Egypt leads as the most powerful military, followed by Algeria in second place. Nigeria’s third-place ranking highlights its growing military capabilities, driven by ongoing investments in personnel training, modernization of equipment, and enhanced counter-terrorism operations. South Africa ranks fourth, rounding out the top tier of Africa’s strongest armed forces.
Globally, Egypt is ranked 19th, Algeria 26th, and Nigeria 31st, reflecting Nigeria’s strategic importance and expanding defense capabilities on both regional and international stages.
Other notable African countries in the top ten include Ethiopia, Angola, Morocco, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, demonstrating the diverse military landscape across the continent.
