The Nigerian Stock Exchange has hit a historic milestone, with its total market capitalization crossing ₦162 trillion for the first time.
The market closed Friday, September 18, 2026 on a strong bullish note. Market capitalization rose by ₦2.27 trillion, or 1.42%, to close at ₦162.16 trillion, up from ₦159.89 trillion recorded on Thursday.
The All-Share Index also advanced by 1.42% to close at 249,804.56 points.
The rally was driven by strong buying interest in large and medium-cap stocks including Cileasing, Fortis Global Insurance, MTN Nigeria, Secure Electronic Technology and Mutual Benefits. MTN Nigeria gained 9.20% to close at ₦890.
Investors exchanged about 526 million shares worth ₦96.9 billion in 44,239 deals.
The new high surpasses the previous record of ₦161.8 trillion set on May 13. It comes just days before Nigeria’s return to FTSE Russell’s Frontier Market classification on September 21.
