The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) says it now receives more than 450 complaints of domestic violence every month through its hotline, social media, and other reporting platforms. Executive Secretary Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi disclosed the figure on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting on emergency response in Ikeja.

Vivour-Adeniyi said the agency records between 400 and 450 new cases monthly, but noted the true number is likely higher since domestic and sexual violence remain widely under-reported in Lagos and globally. She added that increased public awareness has encouraged more victims to come forward using emergency lines, agency offices, and digital channels.

To manage the surge, DSVA operates a 24-hour virtual referral and response system for gender-based violence in partnership with the Lagos Command and Control Centre. The system ensures that anyone who calls the 203 line can access emergency response and psychosocial support at any time.

The update comes after DSVA reported 8,692 sexual and domestic violence cases between August 2024 and July 2025. Officials say domestic violence made up the largest share, with 3,685 cases, while other reports included defilement, child abuse, rape, and sexual harassment.
