Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, has died at the age of 71 after a long illness. He passed away on Friday morning, July 25, 2025, in Abuja.

The news was confirmed by Sulaiman Idris, spokesperson to Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal.

Governor Lawal expressed deep sadness over the loss, describing the late Emir as a wise and dependable leader whose guidance had been invaluable to him and other state leaders.

He mourned the Emir as a confidant and father figure, praying that Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.

Ibrahim Bello was appointed the 16th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, following the death of his father. During his more than ten years on the throne, he was known for his unwavering commitment, faith, and dedication to improving the wellbeing and development of the people of Zamfara State.

The Emir played a key role in fostering peace and socio-cultural progress in the region.

His passing marks the end of an important chapter for the Gusau Emirate, with tributes pouring in from community members, traditional leaders, and public officials who remember him for his leadership and service.

His death is widely seen as a significant loss for not only Zamfara State but for northern Nigeria and the country as a whole. Funeral arrangements are anticipated to be announced by the Gusau Emirate Council.
