U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to impose an additional 10% tariff on nations aligning with BRICS, the economic bloc comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and other member states. In a post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, Trump declared the measure as part of a hardline stance against what he described as “Anti-American policies.”
“Any Country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS, will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy,” Trump wrote. The move signals a potential escalation in trade tensions between the U.S. and the 11-nation group, which has increasingly positioned itself as a counterweight to Western economic dominance.
Analysts suggest the proposed tariff could further strain global trade relations, particularly with major economies like China and India.
