Sudan produced a stunning 4-0 victory over Nigeria, knocking the Super Eagles out of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The match, played at Zanzibar’s Amaan Stadium on Tuesday night, August 12, saw Sudan’s Al-Hilal SC midfielder Abdel Raouf score a brace, while Walieldin Khdir added another goal from the penalty spot after Nigerian defender Leonard Ngenge’s costly blunder.

The game began with Nigeria creating early chances, including a shot from Raymond Tochukwu that flew wide.

However, Sudan took the lead just before the 30th minute mark when Ngenge inadvertently headed the ball into his own net.

The Nigerian team’s woes deepened in the 44th minute when Sudan was awarded a penalty, which Khdir coolly converted.

Despite coach Eric Chelle’s halftime adjustments, Sudan dominated the second half, with Abdel Raouf scoring two more goals in the 55th and 62nd minutes.

The heavy defeat has sparked outrage among Nigerian fans, with many calling for Chelle’s resignation due to his perceived inability to manage the home-based players.

With this loss, Nigeria finishes at the bottom of Group D with zero points, while Sudan tops the group with four points, setting up a crucial match against Senegal.

Sudan’s coach, Kwesi Appiah, attributed the win to Nigeria’s poor tactics, stating that his team wasn’t expecting such a wide margin of victory but took advantage of the Super Eagles’ mistakes.
