The build-up to the 2027 Ogun State governorship election has sparked a war of words between Senator Solomon Adeola and Hon. Abayomi Hunye over claims about the senator’s state of origin.
Senator Adeola, who represents Ogun West and is a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has threatened legal action against Hunye and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello.
The threat was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abeokuta by his Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro.
According to the statement, Hunye, a suspended APC member from Ipokia Local Government, and Marcus-Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleged during television interviews that Adeola is an indigene of Ekiti State.
Adeola described the claims as false, libellous and without evidence, and gave both individuals 24 hours to provide proof or face lawsuits.
He said one of the individuals could not name any town in Ekiti when pressed on television, while the other made false claims about the location of his parents’ graves.
Adeola noted that similar allegations were previously used to stop his election as Ogun West Senator in 2023, but failed at the polls. He said the renewed claim is aimed at undermining his chances ahead of 2027.
Hunye, in a swift reaction, has welcomed the threat and said he is ready to defend his claims in court with documentary evidence.
