The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM1, will be blacklisted from flying in Nigeria for six months.
This decision follows his unruly behavior at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, during boarding for a ValueJet flight, where he refused to comply with security protocols and disrupted operations.
Michael Achimugu, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, stated that the rules apply equally to all passengers and that no individual is above the law.
Achimugu assured the public that all involved in the incident will be held accountable, emphasizing that aviation regulations exist for the safety and protection of everyone.
The NCAA has communicated with the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police to initiate legal proceedings against KWAM1.
The incident involved KWAM1 refusing to allow security personnel to verify the contents of a gold flask suspected to contain alcohol, which is prohibited.
When repeatedly asked to comply, he became confrontational and spilled the flask’s contents on the pilot and security staff, further escalating the situation.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, labeled the event akin to a hostage situation, underscoring the severity of the breach and stating no one, including celebrities, would be permitted to act with impunity.
NCAA and aviation officials reaffirmed their commitment to the rule of law, noting that KWAM1’s proximity to President Bola Tinubu or Minister Keyamo would not shield him from due process.
The six-month blacklist prohibits KWAM1 from boarding any commercial flights within Nigeria, and the move underscores a firm stance on enforcing safety protocols at Nigerian airports.
