Real Madrid forward and France captain Kylian Mbappé has been admitted to hospital with a case of acute gastroenteritis. The 26-year-old missed a recent training session due to fever and was absent from his team’s 1-1 draw on Wednesday.
The club confirmed that the player is undergoing a series of medical tests. Gastroenteritis, a stomach infection, typically causes symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea.
There is currently no update on whether Mbappé will be fit in time for the team’s upcoming match against Pachuca on Sunday evening.
Mbappé has made a major impact in his debut season with Real, scoring 43 goals in 56 appearances after joining from Paris. Under the leadership of new manager Xabi Alonso, the team has already added the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Intercontinental Cup to its trophy haul.
His condition is being closely monitored as Real prepare for the next stage of their campaign.
