The Lagos State Government has launched the Lagos Identity Project, a cutting-edge digital house-numbering initiative designed to improve property identification and public service efficiency across the state.

Dr. Olajide Babajide, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Enterprise Geographic Information System, announced the project during its unveiling in Alausa, Lagos. The system features digital plates embedded with QR codes and local government color codes, aimed at boosting emergency response, postal services, urban planning, and preventing rental fraud.

“This project is about providing Lagosians with world-class services they truly deserve,” Babajide said. He highlighted that scanning the QR code on any building would provide residents and relevant stakeholders with instant access to essential property information, facilitating better service delivery and emergency location tracking.

Developed in partnership with Interspatial, which conducted two years of aerial mapping across Lagos, the initiative introduces a standardized civic address system that complies with global identification and data protection standards. The system is currently being piloted in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area and will be rolled out to all 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas upon successful completion.

Trained Ibile youths are actively implementing the system, ensuring data accuracy and fostering community involvement. Babajide praised the Lagos State Government for its financial commitment, emphasizing that such investments are crucial for advancing technology-driven urban planning.

Mr. Yinka Adesiyan, a co-sponsor and technical partner, emphasized the project’s benefits for security and efficiency. He explained that the digital address plates would assist emergency responders, utility workers, and residents in navigating Lagos more effectively. The system also incorporates a Know Your Customer (KYC) feature, enhancing security and supporting urban infrastructure planning.

“This project goes beyond house numbers. It makes Lagos safer, smarter, and more transparent,” Adesiyan stated.

The Lagos Identity Project builds on previous digital governance milestones achieved during President Tinubu’s tenure as governor, earning international recognition from institutions such as the World Bank.
