Kenya Airways has confirmed that a passenger died after a medical emergency aboard its flight from Nairobi to Lagos on Tuesday night.

According to the airline, the passenger became unresponsive at about 9:20 p.m. Nigerian time, approximately 20 minutes before landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on October 6, 2026.

The airline said in a statement on Wednesday that its crew administered first aid and followed all emergency procedures while preparing for landing.

The aircraft landed at about 9:41 p.m., where it was met by medical personnel. Upon further examination, the medical team confirmed that the passenger had passed away.

Kenya Airways conveyed its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and apologized for any inconvenience caused by the incident, stating that it upholds and respects the privacy and dignity of all involved.

The airline added that it is working closely with the deceased passenger’s family, local authorities and aviation regulators to provide the necessary support and facilitate the required processes.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed the incident and said police have taken over investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death.
