Public servants under the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) have threatened to embark on a three-day nationwide warning strike from October 2, 2026.

The strike notice comes after the Federal Government failed to respond to their September 30 ultimatum over the high cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and other demands.

The JNPSNC, which comprises eight public sector unions, is demanding that the Federal Government slash petrol price to N500 per litre, announce an immediate wage award, and begin negotiations for a new national minimum wage of not less than N500,000 from 2027.

Members of the council include the Nigerian Civil Service Union, Medical and Health Workers Union, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Employees, Nigeria Union of Public Service Reportorial, Secretarial, Data Processors and Allied Workers, National Union of Printing, Publishing and Paper Products Workers, and National Union of Agriculture and Allied Employees.

The council said it had mobilised public servants nationwide and warned that if President Bola Tinubu fails to address the fuel price and wage award issues in his Independence Day broadcast on October 1, the warning strike will commence.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has also thrown its weight behind the threat.
