Taylor Fritz secured the Eastbourne title with a commanding 7-5, 6-1 victory over Jenson Brooksby, winning eight of the final nine games to firmly take control of the match.
The win continues a strong run on grass for the two-time Wimbledon quarter-finalist, who has now won seven of his eight matches on the surface this year, including a triumph over world number three Alexander Zverev in the Stuttgart Open final earlier this month.
Fritz will head into Wimbledon full of confidence as he aims to mount a serious challenge for the title over the next two weeks. His campaign begins on Monday against world number 36 Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
Reflecting on his victory, the 27-year-old said he always enjoys playing in Eastbourne, though this year required more resilience and battling performances. “I’ve really raised my level,” he remarked. “I’d much rather head into Wimbledon with confidence and a title.”
Brooksby’s impressive run came to an end with this defeat. The world number 149 made history as the first lucky loser to reach the Eastbourne final, having initially fallen in the second round of qualifying.
In another grass-court final, Tallon Griekspoor claimed his first title in two years, defeating Corentin Moutet 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) to win the Mallorca Championships.
