The quiet Umumba Ndiagu community in Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State, was thrown into shock and anger after youths uncovered gruesome crimes allegedly committed by a native doctor known as Ichie Millions, also called Ezeani. The discovery was made after Ezeani was reportedly caught attempting to kidnap a 13-year-old girl in the community.
According to eyewitnesses and viral videos, the girl recounted how she and her father were fetching firewood when men working for Ezeani asked for her father’s cutlass. Suddenly, they grabbed her and dumped her in a pit. Her cries alerted Neighborhood Watch operatives, who rescued her just in time.
Following her rescue, community youths stormed Ezeani’s compound. To their horror, they discovered several soakaway pits filled with decomposing bodies, including those of pregnant women and children. The pits were allegedly used by Ezeani to bury his victims alive for ritual purposes. The compound, which also housed his shrine and was filled with luxury cars, became the scene of chaos as angry youths ransacked and set fire to the buildings.
During the operation, three male suspects—Uche Kingsley Agumba, Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi, and Ejike Odinwankpa—were arrested at the scene. The prime suspect, Ezeani, managed to flee and is currently at large. The police, in collaboration with local vigilantes and Neighbourhood Watch, recovered two decomposing bodies from a concrete-sealed pit within an uncompleted building on the property. Investigations revealed that the victims were recently murdered and buried for ritual purposes, and the rescued girl was moments away from suffering the same fate.
The Enugu State Government has since demolished all buildings owned by the fleeing suspect that were used for these criminal activities. The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, visited the crime scene and commended the combined efforts that led to the rescue and arrests. He directed tactical squads and intelligence units to intensify the manhunt for Ezeani and any accomplices still at large, vowing that justice will be served.
Meanwhile, native doctors in the region have staged protests to distance themselves from Ezeani, insisting he is not one of them but a ritualist hiding under the guise of traditional medicine. The community remains in shock as investigations continue and authorities work to bring all perpetrators to justice.
