A viral video circulating on social media has captured a group of nursing students in Delta State rejecting Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as their “mother” during her visit to the state.
The First Lady was in Delta as part of her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) project, aimed at supporting various social programs. During the event, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori praised her efforts, highlighting the impact of the initiative on the healthcare sector and the broader well-being of Nigerians.
As part of the program, professional kits were distributed to the wives of South-South governors, who serve as RHI coordinators in their respective states. Oluremi Tinubu also met with traditional rulers, including the Orodje of Okpe, retired Major General Felix Mujak Peruo.
However, a moment during the event drew significant attention online. In a widely shared clip, the event’s Master of Ceremony introduced the First Lady as “everyone’s mother.” In response, the nursing students rejected the title. When the MC said, “Na our mama be this” (meaning “This is our mother”), the students countered in unison, “Na your mama be this” (meaning “This is your mother”), signaling their disapproval.
Although the exact reason for the students’ reaction remains unclear, the incident has fueled conversations amid growing economic challenges in Nigeria. Many citizens have expressed frustration over rising living costs, food shortages, and insecurity under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
