The driver of former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has appeared before a Magistrate Court in Ogun State over charges related to a fatal road accident that occurred late last year.
The defendant, identified as Adeniyi Kayode, was arraigned at the Sagamu Magistrate Court where he faced multiple charges bordering on reckless and dangerous driving. The case stems from a tragic accident that took place along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in December 2025.
According to court proceedings, Kayode was accused of driving without due care and attention, reckless and negligent driving, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence. He was also charged with dangerous driving causing death.
The accident reportedly involved a Lexus SUV conveying Anthony Joshua and members of his team, which collided with a stationary truck on the expressway. The crash claimed the lives of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami. Anthony Joshua himself survived the incident with minor injuries.
During the court session, the magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with two sureties required to meet specified conditions. The case was subsequently adjourned to a later date to allow for the commencement of trial.
The court premises were filled with legal practitioners and members of the press who monitored the proceedings closely, as the case continues to draw public attention due to the high-profile nature of those involved.
