The Federal Government has announced that Thursday and Friday will be public holidays in observance of Eid‑il‑Fitr.
The declaration follows consultations with relevant religious and national bodies to align the holiday period with the end of Ramadan.
Officials said the holidays are meant to allow Muslims across the country sufficient time to celebrate the festival with family, friends and community members.
Government agencies, schools and many private sector organisations are expected to close during the two‑day holiday period.
President Bola Tinubu and other leaders extended warm wishes to Nigerians, urging unity, peace and harmony as the nation marks the end of the holy month of fasting.
The government encouraged citizens to use the break responsibly and to observe health and safety guidelines while celebrating.
Religious leaders also welcomed the announcement, describing it as a fitting recognition of the importance of Eid‑il‑Fitr in Nigeria’s cultural and religious calendar.
