Rosie Roche, a 20-year-old cousin of Princes William and Harry, was found dead at her family home in Norton, Wiltshire, on July 14, 2025, with a firearm discovered nearby.
Rosie, who was a second-year English literature student at Durham University, was discovered by her mother and sister shortly after she had been packing for a planned trip with friends.
Rosie was related to the princes through their late mother, Princess Diana, as the granddaughter of Diana’s uncle.
Authorities have launched an investigation, which has been deemed non-suspicious with no third-party involvement. The coroner’s inquest into her death is scheduled to resume on October 25.
The family has released a private obituary, describing Rosie as a beloved daughter, sister, and granddaughter.
Plans for a private funeral and a subsequent memorial service have been announced.
This incident follows a previous firearm-related death in the extended royal family, when Thomas Kingston, husband of Lady Gabriella Kingston (another cousin of William and Harry), died in February 2024 in a case ruled as suicide involving a firearm.
The royal family and relatives have chosen to keep comments private to allow the family space to grieve this tragic loss.
Rosie Roche is remembered for her promising academic career and the close bonds she shared with loved ones.
