Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been released from custody after Fuji music icon Saheed Osupa withdrew a cyberstalking lawsuit against him. The case, which led to Portable’s arrest by the Kwara State Police Command, was dropped following private negotiations and public appeals.

Portable had been detained over allegations of criminal defamation, threats to life, and character assassination against Osupa. He was remanded in a correctional facility after failing to meet bail conditions, which included a ₦1 million bond and sureties approved by the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN).

In a statement, Osupa’s management confirmed the withdrawal of the case but emphasized that it was conditional. Portable must publicly retract defamatory statements, admit that his lawyer falsely claimed Osupa begged for forgiveness, and sign a legal undertaking to avoid further online misconduct. Failure to comply could result in the case being reopened.

The statement noted that Osupa initially pursued legal action to uphold professional standards in the music industry but decided to drop the charges after appeals from concerned figures and considering Portable’s detention struggles. The Fuji star urged younger artists to exercise responsibility in public discourse.

Portable’s release ends a legal drama that had dominated entertainment news, though industry observers warn that unchecked controversies could still harm artist reputations and careers.
