Dr. Fortune Gomo, a Zimbabwean environmental scientist who had recently earned her PhD from the University of Dundee, was tragically stabbed to death in broad daylight on South Road, Dundee. The attack occurred around 4:25 p.m. while she was walking with her 10-year-old daughter. Despite the prompt response of paramedics, Dr. Gomo was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 39-year-old had just completed her doctoral studies and had recently begun working as a senior service planner at Scottish Water. Known for her dedication to environmental sustainability and water resource management, she was regarded as a rising star in her field.

Police quickly arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the murder. Authorities have stated there is no indication of any further threat to the public and are continuing their investigation. The suspect appeared in court and has been remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.

The community has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the loss. Colleagues, friends, and family have paid tribute to Dr. Gomo’s intelligence, kindness, and commitment both professionally and personally. The Zimbabwean Embassy in the UK has offered support to her family during this difficult time.

The incident has also raised concerns about public safety in the area, with police increasing patrols and urging anyone with information to come forward. Dr. Gomo’s death is a profound loss to the academic and scientific community, as well as to those who knew her as a devoted mother and friend.
