Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, has announced plans to reconstruct the Ofada-Owode road and build a general hospital in Owode, Ogun State, saying contractors have been mobilised for both projects.
The senator, who represents Ogun West and is the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 election, made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area on Wednesday, 4 November 2026.
At the meeting, held at City Hall in Owode, community representatives presented a list of infrastructure and public-service needs. Their demands included road repairs, electricity transformers, the completion of community-funded health centres and improved access roads.
Gboyega Adeleke, chairman of the Obafemi-Owode Zonal Community Development Committee, said residents had repeatedly contributed their own resources to local development. He called for government intervention to address the scale of the outstanding work.
According to an account of the meeting published by Punch, Adeleke said the community had submitted a document dividing its priorities into immediate, medium-term and longer-term projects. The document also called for existing health facilities built by residents to become operational.
Adeola responded by saying he had facilitated the proposed Ofada-Owode road reconstruction and the construction of Owode General Hospital. He said contractors and project managers had been mobilised and that work would begin immediately.
The proposed hospital would be a three-storey building, according to the senator. He pledged to complete and inaugurate it before 29 May 2027, the date on which the next Ogun State governor is scheduled to assume office.
That timetable remains a political commitment rather than evidence that construction has been completed. No independently verified project budget, procurement record or construction progress report was available in the material reviewed for this report.
Adeola also promised ten electricity transformers in response to a request for three, alongside solar-powered streetlights. The community development committee subsequently acknowledged receiving solar streetlights, although the report did not establish that the proposed transformers had been delivered.
Road access is a prominent concern in Obafemi-Owode, where communities connect with major transport corridors serving Ogun and neighbouring Lagos. Residents at the meeting identified deteriorating roads and inadequate health services among the problems requiring attention.
The community representatives also raised the unfinished Mowe-Ofada road. Adeleke said Adeola had undertaken to complete its other lane within one month of taking office as governor, should he win the 2027 election.
During the engagement, Adeola outlined his ITESIWAJU development agenda, covering infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, agriculture, industrialisation, tourism, arts and culture, and employment. He also proposed a border and new-town development initiative aimed at communities close to Ogun State’s boundaries.
He argued that developing border settlements would help Ogun take advantage of its proximity to Lagos. The senator sought support for APC candidates in the forthcoming elections, while the community representatives said they intended to continue holding political leaders accountable for their promises.
The meeting brought together commitments that Adeola says can begin before the election and proposals dependent on a future administration. The commencement of construction, delivery of the transformers and completion of the hospital will be measurable tests of the commitments made to Obafemi-Owode residents.
