The US Department of State has updated its travel advisory list, categorizing 21 countries, including seven African nations, under the Level 4 “Do Not Travel” alert. The affected African nations are Libya, Mali, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic (CAR).

This advisory highlights severe safety concerns, including armed conflict, terrorism, crime, and civil unrest, making these destinations highly unsafe for travel. Updated regularly, the advisories aim to inform U.S. citizens about risks and help ensure their safety while abroad.

For Libya, the advisory cites ongoing armed conflict, terrorism, crime, and the presence of unexploded landmines. In Mali, travelers face significant threats from crime, terrorism, and kidnapping, with U.S. personnel restricted from traveling beyond Bamako.

Somalia continues to grapple with violent crime, terrorism, and piracy, while Sudan and South Sudan remain volatile due to armed conflict, civil unrest, and frequent disruptions in essential services.

Burkina Faso’s advisory reflects ongoing violence, including terrorism and kidnappings, with states of emergency in several regions. In CAR, large portions of the country are controlled by armed groups, posing significant risks of violent crime and abductions.
