The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted accreditation approval to 37 academic programmes at the University of Ilorin following its October/November 2024 accreditation exercise. Of these, 36 courses received full accreditation, while the Hausa language programme was awarded interim accreditation status.

The accreditation outcome was communicated in a letter dated April 30, 2025, addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN), and signed by the NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, through the Acting Director of Accreditation, Engr. Abraham Chundusu.

The Hausa programme’s interim accreditation allows it to continue operating as the university works to meet the requirements for full accreditation in the next evaluation cycle. Meanwhile, the Igbo language programme from the same Faculty of Arts received full accreditation.

University spokesperson Kunle Akogun described the accreditation results as a “100% accreditation success,” highlighting the institution’s commitment to academic quality and excellence. Vice Chancellor Professor Egbewole expressed joy and fulfillment over the recognition, attributing it to years of strategic investment in human capital and infrastructure.

He thanked the Provost, Deans, Heads of Departments, and faculty members for their dedication, emphasizing that the milestone is a call to further elevate the university’s standards and deliver quality education.

Among the accredited programmes were those from the Faculties of Education, Engineering and Technology, Management Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Communication and Information Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, and Arts.

The NUC accreditation process serves as a statutory quality assurance mechanism that evaluates Nigerian university programmes based on academic content, staffing, infrastructure, and overall viability to ensure educational standards are maintained.
