The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has officially banned all forms of sign-out celebrations among graduating students. This directive was communicated in a circular dated October 7, 2025, signed by the university’s Registrar, Mr. Ademola Bobola.

The decision, reaffirmed by the university’s Senate in a meeting held on October 6, aims to maintain academic decorum, order, and discipline on campus during the examination period. The ban covers all sign-out activities, including signing on T-shirts, playing music, and organizing gatherings.

The circular strictly prohibits indiscriminate parading around campus in any type of vehicle and restricts the entry of unauthorized vehicles during the last week of the second-semester examinations. Additionally, photographers are barred from setting up photo stands or galleries related to sign-out celebrations.

Parents and guardians of final-year students are advised to avoid visiting the Faculty, School, or Institute premises, especially on the last day of examinations, to minimize disruptions.

The university management has warned that any violation of this ban will attract severe disciplinary actions, including rustication, expulsion, or withdrawal of certificates.

This move aligns with similar bans imposed by other Nigerian universities seeking to curb disorderly conduct and unauthorized activities during the critical examination period, ensuring a conducive learning environment for all students.
