President Bola Tinubu has bestowed the prestigious national honour of Officer of the Order of Niger (OON) on the Nigerian Super Falcons following their historic triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco.

During a special reception at the Presidential Villa on Monday, the President lauded the team for their “indomitable spirit of resilience, determination and courage,” describing their victory as truly historic. Earlier in the event, Tinubu received the WAFCON trophy from captain Rasheedat Ajibade.

As a token of appreciation, each of the 24 Super Falcons players received a cash award equivalent to $100,000, alongside a three-bedroom flat allocated to every player and member of the 11-man technical team. Additionally, the technical staff were each granted cash awards equivalent to $50,000.

President Tinubu declared, “On behalf of the grateful nation, I hereby confer on the players and the 11-man technical team the national honour of OON. I hereby allocate a three-bedroom apartment to each of the players and technical crew, alongside a cash award of the naira equivalence of $100,000 to the players and $50,000 to the technical team. Once again, I congratulate you, and I will continue to pray for you.”

The players and technical team expressed their excitement, with joyful celebrations and singing erupting throughout the Villa.

In a light-hearted moment, the President shared that he refrained from watching the nail-biting final match between Nigeria and Morocco live, joking that he did not want to experience high blood pressure.

The Super Falcons secured their tenth WAFCON title in dramatic fashion, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2 on Saturday, cementing their status as African football royalty.
