Nigeria’s Super Eagles have slipped one position in the latest FIFA world rankings, moving from 43rd to 44th globally. The updated rankings were released on Thursday, July 10, 2025. Despite recent strong performances, including winning the 2025 Unity Cup in London and a 1-1 draw against Russia in Moscow, the team’s global standing was not enough to improve their position.

In Africa, the Super Eagles are now ranked fifth, behind Morocco (12th), Senegal (18th), Egypt (34th), and Algeria (36th). Rwanda, which will host Nigeria in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, has risen to 127th, while South Africa, Nigeria’s other qualifier opponent, remains 56th.

The Super Eagles hold the record as Africa’s highest-ranked team, having reached fifth place in April 1994, the same year they made their World Cup debut and advanced to the round of 16. The team is preparing for upcoming qualifiers and tournaments, aiming to climb back up the rankings.

Globally, Argentina remains the top-ranked team, followed by Spain, France, England, and Brazil. The next FIFA world ranking update is scheduled for September 18, 2025.
