The incident has sparked widespread concern and debate about pet owner responsibilities and public safety in residential areas.
The tragic event came to light after local residents raised the alarm on social media, bringing the situation to the attention of authorities.
According to initial reports, the dogs reportedly escaped due to inadequate confinement measures and attacked the security guard, leading to fatal injuries.
Police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident in a statement posted on the Lagos State Police Command’s verified X handle, where he explained that the owner, Mustapha, had been apprehended and the dogs confiscated pending a full investigation. “The police have apprehended the owner of the dogs following the unfortunate mauling of a security guard to death by three dogs at Pinnock Estate, Ilasan, Lekki, on November 5,” Hundeyin stated, emphasizing the command’s commitment to investigating the circumstances thoroughly.

The case has highlighted critical issues around animal control, safety regulations, and the responsibilities of pet owners within residential communities.
Residents have expressed concerns over the potential risks posed by inadequate confinement of aggressive pets, calling for stricter regulations and enforcement to prevent future incidents.
As the investigation unfolds, Lagos authorities are expected to review protocols around pet ownership, particularly in densely populated estates.
This case has intensified calls for heightened accountability among pet owners to ensure public safety is prioritized in such communities.
