Pep Guardiola has confirmed he will leave Manchester City at the end of the 2025/26 season, bringing an end to a decade-long reign at the Etihad Stadium.
The 55-year-old announced the decision on Friday, saying there was “no reason” for his exit other than knowing “deep inside that it’s my time.” Guardiola said: “Nothing is eternal, if it was, I would be here. Eternal will be the feeling, the people, the memories, the love I have for my Manchester City.”
Guardiola took charge in 2016 and won 20 trophies during his tenure, including six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five Carabao Cups, and the Champions League in 2023. His final game will be Sunday’s home fixture against Aston Villa. City said he will then take on a role as Global Ambassador for the City Football Group.
Former Chelsea and Leicester boss Enzo Maresca is reported to be the favorite to succeed him. Guardiola’s departure closes one of the most successful managerial eras in English football history.
