A Port Harcourt-bound luxury bus narrowly avoided tragedy when it tumbled at Vom Junction/Anguldi roundabout in Jos, Plateau State, in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025.

The 4:00 am accident, which completely destroyed roadside shops, miraculously resulted in only one minor injury despite the vehicle’s severe damage. Local fish seller Esther Moses, who witnessed the crash, described it as “divine intervention,” noting the extensive destruction could have caused multiple fatalities.

“The bus flipped several times, scattering goods from nearby shops. It’s unbelievable everyone survived,” said another eyewitness, who noted the accident’s pre-dawn timing likely prevented greater casualties.

Plateau State FRSC spokesperson Yakubu Longsan confirmed officials were clearing the wreckage to restore normal traffic flow. Preliminary investigations suggest brake failure as the probable cause, though authorities are conducting full mechanical inspections.

The near-miss has renewed calls for improved safety measures along the busy Jos-Port Harcourt route, where several fatal crashes have occurred this year. Transport unions are urging operators to conduct mandatory vehicle checks after long-distance trips.
