Parents of students at Lagos Model Colleges in Nigeria are expressing strong discontent over a 200% increase in boarding fees, from N35,000 to N100,000 per term. At a meeting held on Saturday, the Parents’ Forum, led by Surv. Dapo Dawodu, described the hike as unfair and accused the Lagos State Ministry of Education of corruption.

The forum emphasized that the fee increase imposes undue financial strain on parents, especially at a time when the removal of subsidies has already diminished their spending power. Parents have threatened to keep their children at home starting from September 15, 2024, unless the decision is reversed.

In response, the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has yet to address the growing tension regarding the boarding fee hike.
