An Osogbo Magistrates’ Court in Osun State has remanded a man, Taofeek Jimoh, at the Ilesa Correctional Centre over allegations of killing his mother. Jimoh, who appeared in court without legal representation and whose address was not disclosed, is being charged with murder.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Fatoba Temitope, the alleged offence occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on February 19, 2025, in the Oke-Ola area of Osogbo, the state capital. Temitope told the court that Jimoh physically assaulted his mother, Taibat Jimoh, following a dispute between them, and that the assault led to her death.

The charge against Jimoh is brought under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol. 11, Laws of Osun State, 2002, which deals with murder. Given the seriousness of the charge, the presiding magistrate, Mr. O. Olatunji, ordered that Jimoh be remanded at the correctional centre pending further proceedings.

The court adjourned the case until June 17, 2025, for mention. No further details about the circumstances of the incident or the defendant’s background were provided during the hearing.

This case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence and the legal processes in Osun State. The remand ensures that Jimoh remains in custody while the investigation and trial proceed.
