The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has accused the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, of working against him despite his alleged role in helping the monarch ascend the throne in 2015.
In a video from a recent Ramadan lecture in Iwo, confirmed by his press secretary, Ibrahim Alli, Oba Akanbi claimed he intervened in a court case that could have hindered Oba Ogunwusi’s appointment as the Ooni of Ife.
According to the Oluwo, he was initially closer to the Ooni’s elder brother, Tunji Ogunwusi, but supported Adeyeye Ogunwusi’s bid after being contacted by an ally. “He disclosed that almost all stakeholders, including Governor Aregbesola, had agreed to his appointment, but a court case was delaying the process. I assured him that he was already a king and made a call that led to the case being resolved,” Oluwo stated.
However, he alleged that since becoming the Ooni, Oba Ogunwusi has been plotting against him, including orchestrating his suspension from the Osun State Council of Obas and attempting to destabilize his rule.
“He attacked me last month in the presence of the governor, accusing me of discouraging idol worship. He even used my former wife against me,” Oluwo claimed, vowing that no one could remove him as the ruler of Iwoland.
In response, the Ooni’s palace dismissed the allegations. Chief Moses Olafare, the Director of Media at the Ooni’s palace, stated, “This is not the first time Baba Oluwo will make such claims. We never reacted in the past, and we won’t now. Ooni is focused on developmental projects and has no time for distractions.”
