At just 26 years old, Nora Awolowo has made Nollywood history as the youngest Nigerian cinematographer and producer to lead a film that has grossed over ₦100 million locally.

Her crime thriller, Red Circle, released on June 6, 2025, surpassed ₦88 million in just three weeks and soon hit the coveted nine-figure milestone, a remarkable achievement for an original, non-franchise film without major studio backing.

Directed by Akay Mason and co-produced by Abdul Tijani-Ahmed under Rixel Studios, Red Circle showcases a lean yet powerful narrative that resonated deeply with audiences. The film also marks the first executive producing credit for Barnabas Emordi, known for his cinematography on The House of Secrets.

The technical team included Tolu Obanro on the score and Ayomikun Oteju as editor, delivering a visually and emotionally compelling film.

The cast features a dynamic mix of seasoned actors and popular figures including Folu Storms, Tobi Bakre, Omowunmi Dada, Lateef Adedimeji, Mike Afolarin, Timini Egbuson, Ibrahim Suleiman, Ruggedman, Lizzy Jay, Detola Jones, Debo “Mr Macaroni” Adedayo, William Benson, Femi Branch, and Bukky Wright, who made a celebrated return to the screen.

Speaking to Nollywire, Awolowo said, “We didn’t just want to tell a story, we wanted to tell it well. No handouts, just clarity, heart, and a crew that believed. I didn’t set out to break a record. I just wanted to make something honest. But I hope this shows that young people can lead. Not later. Now.”

For Nile Entertainment, the film’s success is the result of a deliberate focus on bold, emerging voices in Nollywood. Group CEO Moses Babatope emphasized that doubling down on fresh talent has paid off with Red Circle becoming a standout hit.

Red Circlew’s achievement marks a significant milestone in Nollywood, highlighting the power of authentic storytelling and the rising influence of young filmmakers like Nora Awolowo in shaping the future of Nigerian cinema.
