Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi has defended the recent arrest of Adura Aloba, the younger brother of late singer Mohbad, stating that it was a lawful action tied to an ongoing homicide investigation.

A viral video captured Mohbad’s mother, Abosede Olumiyi, alleging that her son was abducted by unidentified men believed to be police officers outside the Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos. She accused Fabiyi of orchestrating the arrest and pleaded for public intervention, insisting that Adura was innocent.

However, in a statement issued on Thursday by his foundation, Break The Silence, Fabiyi refuted the allegations, describing them as misleading and defamatory. The statement, signed by the foundation’s Public Relations Officer, Gloria Ladeji, emphasized that Adura and two others, Damola Ayinde Habeeb and Damilare Koleosho, were persons of interest in an ongoing investigation.

According to Fabiyi, multiple invitations had been sent to the trio by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) at Zone 2 Police Command, which they allegedly ignored. He added that the police obtained a court-issued arrest warrant before taking action.

“The police from the Zonal Headquarters approached the court, secured a warrant of arrest, and apprehended Adura outside the court premises on Wednesday,” the statement read. “This was professionally executed without breaching court proceedings. His mother and lawyer were informed of the destination and permitted to follow the police vehicle.”

Fabiyi urged the public to disregard Mrs. Olumiyi’s claims, stating that his legal team would take action against her for defamation.

Background

Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Music, passed away on 12 September 2023 under controversial circumstances. His death has since led to legal battles, including disputes over the paternity of his son, Liam, the management of his assets, and multiple allegations surrounding his demise.

In February, the Yaba Magistrate Court ruled that there was no direct evidence linking Mohbad’s former label boss, Naira Marley, and music promoter, Sam Larry, to his death. However, the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has since ordered the prosecution of an auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and her associate, Ayobami Sadiq, on charges of reckless and negligent acts under Lagos State Criminal Law.
