A tragic medical plane crash occurred on August 7, 2025, near Nairobi, Kenya, claiming the lives of six individuals.

The Cessna Citation 560 air ambulance, operated by AMREF Flying Doctors, crashed into a residential building in Mwihoko, Kiambu County, shortly after taking off from Wilson Airport.

Onboard the flight were four people, including medical personnel—a doctor and a nurse—as well as the captain and first officer.

All four perished in the crash. Tragically, two additional people who were inside the building that the plane struck also lost their lives.

Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft engulfed in flames mid-air before it crashed, causing significant damage to the building and nearby electricity infrastructure.

Two other residents in the area were seriously injured and transported to the hospital for treatment.

The aircraft had lost radio and radar contact with air traffic control within three minutes of departure while en route to Hargeisa, Somaliland, as part of a medical evacuation mission.

AMREF Flying Doctors expressed profound condolences to the families of the victims and confirmed cooperation with authorities during the ongoing investigation.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, alongside the Air Accident Investigation Department, has launched a full inquiry to determine the cause of the crash.

The incident has deeply shocked the local community, which is mourning the loss of lives both onboard the plane and on the ground.

Emergency responders, including firefighters, police, and military personnel, swiftly arrived at the scene to contain the fire and assist victims.

This latest tragedy underscores the risks faced in medical evacuation operations and the critical importance of aviation safety protocols. Further updates are awaited as investigations progress.
