The Lagos State Government has announced an 18-month deadline for traders operating at Computer Village in Ikeja to relocate to a new market site located at Katangowa in the Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area.
This directive was communicated by Gbolahan Oki, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, during a stakeholders’ meeting held with the traders and their executives on September 23, 2025.
Oki emphasized the government’s commitment to seeing the relocation project through and called for the full cooperation of the traders to ensure its successful completion.
He revealed that the Katangowa site spans 15 hectares and has been adequately prepared with the necessary infrastructure to support business activities.
The relocation plan, originally proposed in 2006, had experienced delays due to slow development but has now gained fresh momentum under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, known for its inclusive governance and concern for citizens’ welfare.
He explained that the current Computer Village location in Ikeja was initially a residential area, but over time it transformed into a trading hub without formal government approval, prompting the need for planned relocation.
The new site promises an improved business environment with facilities such as a police post, proximity to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) terminal, and amenities like hotels to support traders and customers.
Chief Abisola Azeez, Iyaloja of Computer Village, recalled previous agreements made with then-Governor Bola Tinubu, now President of Nigeria, regarding the relocation to Katangowa.
She urged traders to embrace the relocation plan to facilitate orderly market operations and infrastructural development.
The Lagos State Government reassures all stakeholders that this move will enhance business prospects, urban planning, and market management, aiming to make Katangowa an exemplary commercial hub for technology and electronics trade.
Traders have been urged to commence preparations to relocate within the stipulated timeframe to avoid disruptions and fully benefit from the upgraded market infrastructure.
