The Lagos State Sports Trust Fund (LSSTF) has distributed sports equipment to 1,664 public schools across the six educational districts in Lagos State. The initiative, aimed at promoting grassroots sports development, benefited 1,020 primary schools and 644 secondary schools under 20 Local Government Education Authorities.

The equipment handed over included table tennis boards, running vests and pants, spike shoes, footballs, basketballs, volleyballs, chess sets with clocks, scrabble boards with dictionaries, draught boards, tennis rackets, and fully stocked first aid kits. Other items such as Ayo, ludo, dart boards, and skipping ropes were also provided. These were delivered to tutor-generals and permanent secretaries representing the educational districts.

Speaking at the event, Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Land Bureau, Mr. Kamar Olowosago, emphasized the vital role of sports in the holistic development of children. Former Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Wahid Enitan Oshodi, commended the LSSTF for equipping schools with modern sports gear.

The Executive Secretary of LSSTF, Mr. Olaposi Agunbiade, expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support of grassroots sports development, highlighting the government’s commitment to nurturing young talents and encouraging healthy lifestyles through sports.

This distribution is part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State government to enhance sports infrastructure and create opportunities for youth engagement, aiming to divert young people from negative influences and promote physical education as a key component of overall education.
