The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Anambra State by three days, moving the deadline from July 17 to July 20, 2025. This decision, announced following the commission’s weekly meeting in Abuja, was in response to appeals from citizens and stakeholders seeking additional time to complete their registrations.

INEC commended the peaceful conduct and strong turnout across all 326 registration centers in the state. Within the first nine days, a total of 96,085 new voters were registered, averaging over 10,600 registrations daily. Additionally, 12,595 requests for transfer of voter registration and 7,061 applications for updates or replacements of damaged or lost Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were recorded.

Preliminary data also showed active participation from women and youth, with 58 percent of the newly registered voters being female and over half aged between 18 and 34. After the registration closes, INEC will publish a preliminary register to allow for claims and objections, followed by a data clean-up using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS). A final demographic breakdown of registrants will be released thereafter.

The commission also disclosed the receipt of five new letters of intent from groups seeking political party registration, bringing the total applications to 134. Details of these applications are openly available on INEC’s platforms to ensure transparency.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparent processes and timely communication as preparations continue for the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
