Theophilus Alaye, President of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, has firmly rejected any condition requiring suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to serve only a single term as a prerequisite for his reinstatement. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Alaye emphasized that Fubara has the constitutional right to seek re-election in 2027 and should not be pressured by any political figure, including his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to accept a single term.

Alaye described the single-term stipulation as speculative and insisted that the Ijaw Youth Council would support Fubara’s bid for re-election if he chooses to contest. He stressed that any agreement limiting Fubara’s constitutional rights would be unacceptable and an infringement on his fundamental freedoms.

President Bola Tinubu had suspended Fubara and other state officials in March 2025, declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State amid political turmoil and security concerns. However, recent developments, including a reconciliation meeting involving Tinubu, Fubara, and Wike, have raised prospects for Fubara’s return to office.

Alaye reiterated the council’s commitment to opposing any oppression and underscored their support for Fubara’s right to govern and seek a second term, reflecting broader calls for respect of democratic principles and the rule of law in the state’s ongoing political resolution.
