
In a shocking incident on Sunday, June 30, 2024 about 20 travellers were abducted by gunmen on the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, near the Sagamu Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force and Ilisan township.
A local resident and chairman of the Ilisan Development Council, Wemmy Osude, confirmed the incident to newsmen, stating that one victim was shot in the knee and is now receiving medical treatment at Babcock University Teaching Hospital.
“A resident was reportedly shot in the knee and is receiving medical attention at Babcock Teaching Hospital. Other victims were taken into the bush,” Osude said, adding that the injured resident is in stable condition.
Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed three armed robbery incidents and the abduction of a driver during the attack. The gunmen, using an unregistered Toyota Venza, intercepted a man in his Toyota RAV4, firing multiple rounds into the vehicle’s tyres before abducting the driver and fleeing towards Ijebu-Ode.
The attackers also targeted a Toyota Camry, injuring its driver in the leg as he attempted to turn around. Additionally, a bus driver travelling from Abuja to Lagos had his windscreen smashed and phone stolen, though he was not harmed further.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun, has been briefed, and the Anti-Kidnapping unit has been tasked with the investigation. Further updates, including the identities of the kidnapped victims, will be communicated to the public as the situation develops.
