Filmmaker Femi Adebayo has unveiled Funke Akindele, Fuji stars Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam 1, and Wasiu Alabi Pasuma among the new cast members of Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors, which is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on 4 December 2026.

Adebayo announced the expanded line-up in a video released on his social media pages on Friday, 16 October, bringing together leading figures from Yoruba cinema, mainstream Nollywood, comedy and Fuji music for the sequel to his 2023 epic.

Other additions include actor Muka Ray and comedian and content creator Cute Abiola. The cast announcement also named veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo.

Several performers from the first film will return for the new instalment. They include Lateef Adedimeji, Bimbo Ademoye, Bukunmi Oluwashina, Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Yekini, popularly called Itele D Icon, Fathia Balogun, Adebayo Salami, Muyiwa Ademola, Yinka Quadri and Dele Odule.

Adebayo said the production required performers capable of making its fictional world convincing. “This cast understood the assignment. Some brought power, some brought rage, some brought the silence that said everything without saying a word,” he said in the announcement.

He added that rehearsals, retakes and the different personalities involved eventually came together around a single story, while withholding details of the characters played by the newly announced actors.

The participation of Kwam 1 and Pasuma extends the film’s connection to Yoruba popular culture beyond acting. Both musicians are major figures in Fuji, a genre with deep roots in south-western Nigeria and a substantial audience at home and in the diaspora.

Jagun Jagun: The Warrior, released on Netflix on 10 August 2023, follows Gbotija, a young man who joins an elite army in his search for power and revenge, and Ogundiji, the warlord who sees the emerging fighter as a threat to his authority.

The Yoruba-language production was directed by Tope Adebayo Salami and Adebayo Tijani. It combined period drama, military spectacle and palace politics, with Femi Adebayo playing Ogundiji and Lateef Adedimeji appearing as Gbotija.

The first film won Best Indigenous Language Movie, West Africa, and Best Costume Design at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. It also secured three honours at the 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards, including Achievement in Makeup, Achievement in Visual Effects and Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Adebayo.

Netflix’s listing for the original film identifies Yoruba as its original audio language and describes it as an action period piece centred on royalty, war and a young fighter’s encounter with a powerful warlord.

Adebayo announced earlier in October that the sequel was ready after two years of production. The cast reveal is the latest confirmed detail ahead of its December release, although the filmmaker has not yet disclosed the full plot or the roles assigned to the new performers.

Jagun Jagun 2: War of Warriors will be available on Netflix from 4 December 2026.
