The Federal Government of Nigeria’s scheduled meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been postponed. Initially set for today, the meeting aimed to address issues that could prevent a nationwide strike.
ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke confirmed the delay, stating that no specific reason was provided. The rescheduled meeting is now expected to occur on Wednesday, August 28.
The postponement comes as ASUU has issued a fresh 21-day strike notice over unmet demands, including welfare issues, funding for universities, and concerns about the proliferation of institutions. The union’s latest notice was issued following a national executive council meeting held at the University of Ibadan.
The meeting was intended to avoid another strike, reflecting ongoing tensions between the government and university lecturers.
